The population of Taiwan has grown from 3 million people to 23 million in the past century (Gapminder). Looking at the birth rate and death rate above provided from the CIA WorldFactbook, we see that the population is still continuing to grow. However the rate of population growth is declining tremendously due to the low fertility rate of 1.1, far off from the 2.1 needed for replacement. The increase in population can also be attributed to the rise in medical advancements, providing better health care and ultimately a longer life expectancy, ranking Taiwan 52nd among the world in life expectancy (World Factbook).
